Natural Fresh Toothpaste

Do you know what everything is in your toothpaste? Take one of yours and google all the ingredients. I´m sure you will be surprised how many things are in there, which shouldn´t go inside our mouth. I already did my research and decided to use only the natural one.

Natural soaps, shampoos and also toothpastes don´t give us huge foam or lather. The cleansing ability of cosmetic products doesn´t depend on their foaming properties, on which we are so often fixed. All the crazy bublles and foam are usually chemical additives.

When it comes to natural toothpaste, you have to get used to it. It´s quite different from the regular one. It´s not very sweet and it doesn´t have the strange not-realistic menthol taste, of course no foam. If you used just the regular toothpaste since now, be patient and try this natural version at least for two weeks, I´m sure you will love it and don´t want to go back to your old one 😊

There are many recipes for toohtpaste from coconut oil, but I just don´t prefer them. However maybe you will like them, so at least you can try. It´s very easy, just mix oil- coconut or olive oil with something loose like sodium bicarbonate, clay, cinnamon, charcoal, turmeric...From my experience sodium bicarbonate is not very good in toothpaste, even if it´s in so many recipes, it´s just not good for sensitive teeth. Turmeric has great whitening properties, but careful with colouring your skin around lips. Charcoal is now super fancy ingredient in toothpaste and there are already many brands selling this "black toothpaste", however I can´t prove the whitening properties after my two times try, because my sink just doesn´t like the black colour :) and don´t forget the cinnamon, be careful with the amount, especially when you use also cinnamon essencial oil, I´ve already burned my gums.

But let´s go to my favourite recipe, which uses water instead of oil. The only negative is that it has short shelf life, so you have to leave it in the fridge and use in 2 weeks. This recipe is for 25-28 uses, but it also depends on how much you put on your brush.

          + bowl
                                plastic/ glass spoon
            jar/ container

Before you start you have to disinfect all your tools, either with alcohol or cook them for few minutes in water. Sometimes I´m too lazy, so I just splash them with boiling water.

Because clay reacts with metal, mix all the ingredients with plastic or glass spoon. As container you can use jar or even cleaned container from your regular toothpaste, just cut the top, clean it, fill with the paste and close with some clothespin.
If you find not practical to make the paste so often, you only mix the loose ingredients and later just mix in the water, it will save you some time. You can also use natural conservative- grapeseed extract, but I don´t have any experience with it yet.

I hope you enjoyed my recipe and if you already use the natural toothpaste or you want to try, share with us in the comments 😊
